Mão de Buda - o curioso limão asiático

Buddha's Hand - the curious Asian lemon

Originating from Northeast India and China, the Buddha's Hand lemon is a highly peculiar citrus fruit with great cultural and religious significance, cultivated for hundreds of years. Easily recognisable by its unique shape resembling elongated fingers, it differs from other lemons as it lacks juicy pulp.
Only the thick peel is edible, and this is what makes it such a special product. It contains large amounts of aromatic oil, is surprisingly sweet compared to the peels of other citrus fruits, and has a lemony flavour with hints of lavender and violet.
Highly sought after by the global gastronomic community, it is primarily used as a flavouring agent due to its intense citrus perfume with floral notes (think lemon blossom). Buddha's Hand lemon has a variety of applications!
It can be zested to flavour teas, liqueurs, and cocktails, used in essential oils, as a citrus seasoning in salads, pastas, savoury dishes, and marinades, or candied into strips for cakes, biscuits, and desserts.
Due to its visually striking appearance, it is also used for decorative and ornamental purposes and as a natural air freshener (yes! it can be left in the fruit bowl for months and will continue to gift us with its remarkable aroma).
We have a few of these for anyone eager to explore their limitless potential!
